Self Improvement - Motivating Yourself

Motivating yourself when you are working on your self-improvement goals can be a challenge. There is no one method that works for motivating everyone. And everyone has times when they begin to lack motivation to move towards their goal. When you first begin working towards your goal you are usually motivated by excitement and anticipation. But as time goes on your enthusiasm may wane and you may have a harder time motivating yourself to keep going.

If you are having trouble keeping motivated towards your goal, try some of these methods to help you get back on track.
Small goals - Always break down your specific goal into smaller, more easily obtained goals. These, put together, will bring you to your main goal. Smaller goals will help you feel a sense of achievement and renew your motivation towards your major goal. Celebrate each achievement.

Calendar - Keep a calendar specifically for the purpose of your self-improvement goal. Mark all important dates in your calendar, such as any milestone dates towards your goal. Use a pocket-sized calendar that you can carry with so you will always be able to look at it. Refer to it every chance you get, such as when you are waiting in line, when you are waiting for a doctor's appointment or when you are taking public transportation.

Rewards - Think of a reward that you will give yourself once you complete your goal. For instance, if there is a particular clothing or accessory item you want make it a reward. Once you reach your goal you can reward yourself with the item. The reward can be anything that you want. It may be a trip, a book, a day at the spa or anything else you deem as a reward. Research has shown that rewards work much better than punishments, even on ourselves.

Affirmations - Give yourself plenty of positive reinforcements in the way of affirmations. Tell yourself that you can do it. Nothing goes further towards helping up achieve our goals than positive thinking.
Reminders - Make sure to leave yourself plenty of positive reminders about your goals. These should help keep you motivated, especially during times of stress. A reminder can be as simple as a sticky note left in a strategic place or a pop-up calendar reminder on your computer. Keep the message simple and positive.

Coach - A coach may give those who need it that extra push. Coaches are available for all types of goals. If you have specific diet goals a nutritionist can be your coach. For exercise goals you may use a personal trainer. A life coach is available to help with all sorts of personal improvement goals.

Support Team - You can create your own support team for your specific goal. Use family members or friends to help you stay on track towards your goals. Let them give you reminders and encouragement towards your personal goal. Make sure you choose positive people to help you. If you have negative people on the team they won't be any help in you reaching your goal and may actually hinder you.

Living or Studying Environment

The environment in which you are studying is one of the most important factors affecting your concentration and consequently the quality of the work you are producing, therefore it is definitely worth giving it a degree of thought.

Finding the environment in which you are best able to work is generally discovered through trial and error, some people are able to knuckle down amongst a multitude of distractions, whilst others require complete silence. However, finding the perfect conditions for you to personally work at your optimum is essential. The place where you are most comfortable studying may be your bedroom at a well lit desk, or it may help to leave the house and its homely distractions and travel to the library to find a quiet study spot. It’s probably worth experimenting with different areas before you determine your ideal working conditions.

Certain factors are pretty much universal though, the old maxim regarding a tidy desk equalling a tidy mind rings fairly true as it’s far easier to concentrate when all your notes are neat and organised. If your work is buried under a pyramid of confused notes, books and scrap papers the chances are that your work will reflect this. It has also been suggested that you should sit at a desk with a hard backed chair when working as if you are slouched or lying down the quality of your work may replicate this lazy approach. A bright desk light in an otherwise darkened room often works wonders for the concentration, as does some neutral background music, which you won’t be tempted to sing or dance along to.

Most people also find it easier to concentrate and indeed work more efficiently when they have planned out their study time and given themselves deadlines and targets to achieve. Having your time organised generally prevents you wasting brain power on stressing unnecessarily about whether you will finish something on time.

However, some find it impossible to even begin attacking their 2,500-word essay until the night before a deadline -this being especially true with freshers. In this case you should check all your notes are in place already to make this achievable. It is also a clever idea if you are pulling an ‘all nighter’ to stock up on supplies of Red Bull and to set your alarm in the morning so if you manage to get some sleep, you don’t then snooze past your deadline.

COOPERATION

One who cooperates receives cooperation. The method to give cooperation is to use the energy of the mind to create vibrations of good wishes and pure feelings for others and for the task. By remaining detached, objective and influenced by innermost values and not external circumstances, subtle cooperation in the form of wisdom emerges.

Human achievement is like a mountain range with cliffs, crags, slopes and valleys. To aim for excellence in collective achievement is to aspire to climb to the crowning point. The endeavor requires each climber to be equipped with essential skills and knowledge and good amounts of determination and will power. However, no climb should ever be undertaken without the most indispensable piece of equipment: the safety rope of cooperation. Cooperation ensures equanimity, empowerment, easiness and enthusiasm. Cooperation provides the means for each climber to take a step, no matter how small, and for those steps collectively to reach the pinnacle.

Mutual Benefit
Cooperation is not a bargaining game in which one person's success is achieved at the expense or exclusion of the success of others. The constant aim of cooperation is mutual benefit in human interactions; it is governed by the principle of mutual respect. Courage, consideration, caring and sharing provide a foundation from which cooperation as a process can be developed.

If the power of discrimination is sharp at the time a person, group or nation needs cooperation and the accurate method is applied, there will be success in human interactions and relations. The method can be as simple as providing an explanation, giving love or support, or listening. However, if there is lack of power to discern the type of cooperation needed and the correct method to give that, success in the form of agreement and contentment will not be experienced. That can be likened to a doctor not accurately diagnosing the illness. Instead of getting well, the patient would experience complications created by the treatment.

Cooperation is possible when there is easiness, not heaviness. Easiness means being sincere and generous of spirit. Such liberality makes one worthy of receiving cooperation from everyone. If one has faith and confidence in others, that in turn, builds faith and confidence in others. Such feelings produce a comfortable environment of empowerment, respect, support and togetherness.

Everyone’s Responsibility
Cooperation is everyone's responsibility, yet it takes courage and inner strength to facilitate the process. Sometimes those who take on the responsibility become the target for insult and criticism. Fundamental preparations are required to create an internal support mechanism through which such individuals are able to protect themselves hand maintain equanimity and poise. The necessary attitude is one of detachment, in which nothing is taken personally. By remaining detached, objective, and influenced by innermost values and not external circumstances, subtle cooperation in the form of wisdom emerges. To look at another with an attitude of love and cooperation - even after being "defamed" by that person - is known as having MERCIFUL VISION. The outlook is infused with understanding, forgiveness, tolerance, patience and empathy. One with such a nature more easily facilitates the removal of any "grid-locks of non-cooperation" which may have been stalling progress.

Cooperation requires recognizing the unique role of every individual while maintaining a sincere and positive attitude . Positive thoughts within the self automatically and easily creates the feeling of cooperation within the minds of others. The method to give cooperation is to use the energy of the mind to create vibrations of good wishes and pure feelings for the others and for the task. That effects the atmosphere in a positive and subtle way. The collective vibrations of such pure and subtle effort prepare the ground for open and profound deliberations and a successful round of cooperation.

Time Is Now
Cooperation with time and with the natural order of events brings patience. Time is valuable because it always offers unique opportunities to achieve what is best and what is necessary at the moment it is meant to be. Time cooperates with each person if one chooses to recognize its importance.

In the process of world transformation, the time is now for each person to lend a finger of cooperation - if not with mind, then with body, then with wealth; if not wealth, then with encouraging or urging others to cooperate. If each were to lend one finger, together the mountain would be lifted! And when the subtle ties which join us together in universal brotherhood are recognized as unbreakable, then cooperation will become inevitable, and together we will reach new and greater heights!

"However, it is here, in this hall, that we have all come together- that we must all come together - to make known our differences, examine our motivations and, if possible, find solutions. For there are, beyond all that can divide us, common purposes, common objectives, to which we have all promised to adhere and which our charter proclaims in Article 1 in an order which it is worth recalling on this thirtieth anniversary. We have in fact solemnly undertaken to 'Maintain international peace and security,' to 'Develop friendly relations among nations,' and to 'Achieve international cooperation.'"

What Is Hot Stone Massage?

By Anitra Brown, About.com

Hot stone massage uses heated basalt stones to soothe and relax.

Hot stone massage is a specialty massage that uses smooth, heated stones. They are often basalt, a black volcanic rock that absorbs and retains heat well. It is a deeply soothing, relaxing form of massage. The heat helps tight muscles release.

What Happens During a Hot Stone Massage?

*Before you arrive, the massage therapist sanitizes the stones and heats them in 120 to 150 degree water.

* The therapist uses traditional strokes of Swedish massage while holding a heated stone. As the stone cools, the therapist replaces it with another.

* The therapist might also leave heated stones in specific points along your spine, or in the palms of your hand, or even between your toes to improve the flow of energy in your body.

* If you have inflammation or muscle injury, cold stones are sometimes used.

How Much Does a Hot Stone Massage Cost?

A hot stone massage is more expensive than a basic Swedish massage because it requires more preparation and clean-up and usually runs longer. A typical hot stone massage is $150, but the price can go higher.

What You Need To Know About Hot Stone Massage:
* The therapist uses many stones of various shapes and sizes.

* The heat of the stones helps muscles release more quickly than in traditional massage.

* You should speak up if the stones are too warm or the pressure too intense.

* Technique is very important. Less experienced practitioners sometimes use too much pressure.

* Small local day spas might have less experienced therapists. If you have any doubts, ask where the therapist learned hot stone massage, and how long she has done it.

*Hot stones warmed by fire were used by Native Americans to feel better, but Mary Nelson, a native of Tucson, Arizona, is generally credited with its revival. She trademarked her style, called LaStone Therapy. Most spas offer their own versions of hot stone massage.

A Fact About War

War is the reciprocal and violent application of force between hostile political entities aimed at bringing about a desired political end-state via armed conflict. In his seminal work On War, Carl Von Clausewitz calls war the "continuation of political intercourse, carried on with other means."War is an interaction in which two or more militaries have a “struggle of wills”. When qualified as a civil war, it is a dispute inherent to a given society, and its nature is in the conflict over modes of governance rather than sovereignty. War is not considered to be the same as occupation, murder, or genocide because of the reciprocal nature of the violent struggle, and the organized nature of the units involved.

War is also a cultural entity, and its practice is not linked to any single type of political organization or society. Rather, as discussed by John Keegan in his “History Of Warfare”, war is a universal phenomenon whose form and scope is defined by the society that wages it. The conduct of war extends along a continuum, from the almost universal tribal warfare that began well before recorded human history, to wars between city states, nations, or empires.

A group of combatants and their support is called an army on land, a navy at sea, and an air force in the air. Wars may be prosecuted simultaneously in one or more different theatres. Within each theatre, there may be one or more consecutive military campaigns. A military campaign includes not only fighting but also intelligence, troop movements, supplies, propaganda, and other components. A period of continuous conflict is traditionally called a battle, although this terminology is not always applied to conflicts involving aircraft, missiles or bombs alone, in the absence of ground troops or naval forces.

War is not limited to the human species, as ants engage in massive inter-species conflicts which might be termed warfare. It is theorized that other species also engage in similar behavior, although this is not well documented.
